OUGD101 - Alphabet Soup for Parnter (Halfway Crit)

How are your four words selected to represent the typeface being explored?

The most apparent word represented is Mexican, with the typeface and the pattern styles used, which also have a strong visual link to my partners most inspiration person/artist. Invisibility is also included on a subtle level, where I have explored things like not using a keyline, not having solid letterform due to the pattern construction and looking at negative letterforms in a patterned background.

Why is the existing typeface that has been selected to manipulate an (in)appropriate choice?

It has connotations of the country, one of my partners favourite artists comes from, and it is often used by another of her favourite artists.

What are the reasons behind the design decisions you have made for the typeface so far?

To visually communicate the combination of my partners inspirations, looking at both obvious and subtle ways to represent the information I interpreted.

Action to be taken:
  • production of the final pattern content and and its size within the type
  • experimentation with positive and negative letters within the patterns, to represent invisibility
  • experimentation with colour within the patterns to represent the sixties
