OUGD101 - Alphabet Soup 1

OUGD101 Alphabet Soup Part One Evaluation

Overall I am pretty pleased with my outcome for this brief; the outcomes were well constructed in order to communicate my given word: ‘Deconstruct’. In particular the sections where the imagery bleeds out of parts of the letterforms and in other places there are gaps, thus representing the deconstruction of the letter. I decided using buildings and other structures, as the content would be suitable and effective as it is relevant, to the ‘Deconstructivism’ architectural movement.

Weaknesses within my design are consistency, colour selection and time scale. I think the letters work well as an obvious set, but if you were to pick a random two from the set the visual link may not be as strong. Unfortunately I cannot claim a rational choice for the colour selection other than aesthetics; black is a strong colour to work with in typography, and the orange adds bright bits of detail. The issues with time with this brief were that I didn’t really come up with my final direction until after my crit, which only left me one night to do the final ten letters.
